We had our own business but had to sell it, it was a food concession truck and it was in bad shape (mechanically). We moved to MD to try to start over and moved to Salisbury because its a bigger city we thought work would come easy, my husband is a very good and experienced cook, he had 2 jobs at once but was let go because they couldn't afford to pay him any more. He does still have 2nd job at Red Lobster. I had hip replacement and have limited jobs that I am able to do. Please help us.

I'm in need of emergency assistance for my rent. I'm a single mother of 5 children ages 15,12,7(twin girls), & 3. I' recently had to move into the apartments I'm currently in due to my being layed off previously last year. It was God's grace that got me through and I trust him so much I know it will be his grace that will get me through this. I was working however the job that I had at this time was only temporary and the assignment ended in 02/2011. I've been getting by on my tax refund up to this point. I've taken my youngest son (3yr old) out of day care due to my not being able to pay the bill any longer and that bill is currently past due. I've already spoken w/my exhusband and he's agreed to watch him for me during the day until I can get the daycare bill paid down I'm not eligible for assistance through DSS due to my previously going down there this year. You can only get assistance through social services once per year.I have $375 toward my rent and I'm in need of $488. I've asked some friends and I spoke w/ my father he said that he can give me $100 or $150. I do have a new job however I will not be starting until 05/16/2011, and I'm not sure if I will get paid in time to pay the balance on my rent. According to the notice sent to me. If the balance is not paid they will proceed with a right of redemption (that means whether I have the money or not they will still evict). I have to have the money paid to them by the date of the court hearing. As much as I don't like the smaller place I'm in it's all I have right now. Please help. I'll take what I can.

Im in the same boat. I have two children and am married. I have been sick for a very long time, but recently started to get better. I have suffered from Severe Seboriac Arthritis.I have tried working at home, but I had been so sick I couldnt get out of bed at times.
I had been like that for so long, and we have no more monies saved or even earned any longer.
We are temporarily living at a home that is mold infested, Termite damaged and still has flooding when it rains.
I dont really care about my health per say, but if Im not healthy I dont think we will have the monies to pay rent. Its expensive in our area, and we have called a few shelters and the ones I have called refer us to somewhere else each time. which does not serve our region. I think I have enough for a new smaller apartment for the first month maybe. I have experience in computer work and internet business developement. I also studied architecture, but did not finish. I have not been able to do too much physical work due to damage to my leg and knee, which i cannot stand for long periods of time or walk for long periods of time, due to my condition. My wife does work as well.
I am about to look into places near then PG cnty Metro or Takoma Park Metro, because they are good access points for transportation and work. I found very affordable housing near these areas. They are still close enough for my kids to go to their schools.
If someone could just help and sponsor us for a short time, Im sure we will be able to catch up on things. Any help and/or excellent sure result having advice that will lead to sure housing in the area, will be appreciated.

I am a single father with 2 children ages 2 and 14. I have never asked for any help before because I never been in this situation. I lost my job about 2 months now and could never save any money because of daycare and rent, utilities, etc; I am facing eviction because I am 2 months behind in my rent. I do not have any family in this area and just need a temporary hand until I start work April 6. I am looking for someone to point me in the right direction for rent assistance. I am willing to pay back on a monthly payment once I start working. Never been in this situation but I do not know where to go for help. Social service only will give 300, but that's not enough, I do not even have partial rent to contribute now. Any suggestions...

New Hampshire How To Apply For Rental Assistance

By friendshelpingfriends - on Dec 7, 2010... modified on Feb 28, 2011
Posted in friendshelpingfriends

Fill out the Housing Choice Voucher application as completely and accurately as possible and return it to New Hampshire Housing at the address listed below.

You will receive a confirmation letter stating the approximate length of time before you will be able to receive assistance. If you do not receive that letter in two weeks, please call our office, 1-800-439-7247, extension 9266. Due to the high volume of calls, it may take extra time for someone to return your call. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Eligibility is not determined when we receive your application. When we have vouchers available we will notify you and will verify your information at that time. Important: If you do not update your address with us if you move, we will be unable to contact you when vouchers become available and we will have to inactivate your file. You will then need to reapply.

The estimated waiting time for a voucher is based on the number of people on the waiting list, the availability of vouchers and an applicant's preference status. For a majority of applicants, this could mean an estimated waiting time of 6 to 8 years before your name reaches the top of the list.

Please note: this is just an estimate. The actual wait time could be longer or shorter.

HOW TO QUALIFY FOR RENTAL ASSISTANCE

To qualify for the Housing Choice Voucher Program, a household must:

1.  Have an annual income that does not exceed those limits published by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). (When determining income eligibility, Gross Income is used.)

HUD Income Limits

2.  Provide verification of Social Security Numbers for all household members age 6 and older or certify that they do not have Social Security numbers. These documents may be submitted at the time of application or when vouchers become available.

3.  Meet HUD requirements on immigration or citizenship status.

4.  Pay any money owed to New Hampshire Housing or any other housing authority.

5.  Not be subject to lifetime sex offender registration requirements.

6.  Sign authorization forms so that New Hampshire Housing can verify the various eligibility requirements for the rental assistance programs.

7.  Not have any household members who are engaged in any criminal activity that threatens the life, health, safety, or right to peaceful enjoyment of the premises by other residents.

8.  Not have any household member who is engaged in any drug-related or violent criminal activity.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS

The rental assistance programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). New Hampshire Housing helps tenants with their rent payments by paying a portion of the monthly rent directly to the landlord.

To receive assistance in a particular unit, the following must happen:

1.  The unit must pass a Housing Quality Standards inspection.

2.  The landlord must agree to participate in the program.

3.  The rent must be determined by the Housing Authority to be reasonable.

If you do not live in a unit that qualifies when you reach the top of the waiting list, you will have sixty (60) days to locate housing that does qualify.

NOTE

Please note that the information provided is subject to verification through computer matching with other federal agencies for the purpose of locating delinquent debtors. The debtor records include these data elements: Social Security number, claim number, program code and indication of indebtedness. Categories of records include: records of claims and defaults, repayment agreements, credit reports, financial statements, and records of foreclosures.

Montana Resources For Assistance With Rent, Utilities, Food, WIC, and more

By friendshelpingfriends - on Nov 16, 2010... modified on Feb 2, 2011
Posted in friendshelpingfriends

The state Department of Public Health and Human Services administers a number of programs aimed at helping low-income Montanans move out of poverty and become self-sufficient. These include:

Child Care Assistance

The department offers "Best Beginnings" child-care scholarships to qualified low-income families who send children to licensed child-care centers, registered group or family child-care homes, or legally unregistered child-care providers. Each family participates in the cost of that care by making a co-payment based on family income.

Scholarships are available to low-income working families and families who get cash assistance through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program.

More on child care assistance

Healthy Montana Kids (HMK)

HMK is a low-cost health coverage plan for eligible Montana children up to age 19.

To be eligible, a child must:

  • Be a Montana resident and U.S. citizen or qualified alien;
  • Have been without health insurance coverage for at least three months;
  • Meet income guidelines; and
  • Have parents who do not work for the State of Montana.

Applications for HMK are available at local health departments, WIC offices, Head Start facilities, and Indian Health Services. You can call 1-877-KIDSNOW (1-877-543-7669) to request an application.

More about HMK

Energy Assistance

The department offers two programs aimed at helping low-income individuals reduce their heating costs.

The Weatherization Program helps participants to improve the heating efficiency of their homes and thus reduce their energy consumption. The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) pays part of winter energy bills for eligible people. Most utilities offer discounts to LIEAP recipients.

Eligibility for weatherization and fuel assistance is based on income and assets. Homeowners and renters may apply for these programs.

If your household receives benefits from Supplemental Security Income or the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program, you may qualify automatically for weatherization or fuel assistance.

You can apply for energy assistance at your local Human Resources Development Council. Applications for weatherization assistance are accepted year-round. Applications for fuel assistance must be submitted October 1-April 30 .

More about energy assistance

Medicaid

Montana Medicaid is a joint federal-state program that pays for a broad range of medically necessary health care and long-term care for eligible low-income Montanans.

Medicaid is governed under broad national guidelines, but each state can establish its own eligibility standards, decide what services to cover and for how long, and set the rate of payment for services. In Montana, the Medicaid program is administered by the Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS).

To be eligible for Montana Medicaid, you must meet financial requirements that take into account your income, assets, and resources. You must be a Montana resident and a U.S. citizen (or qualified non-citizen), and you must fall into one of the following groups:

  • Parents or other related adults with dependent children under age 19
  • Children
  • Pregnant women
  • Women diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer or pre-cancer
  • People aged 65 or older

Everyone else receives basic Medicaid coverage. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

The program mission is to provide supplemental food assistance to low income people and improve the nutrition, health, and wellbeing of SNAP recipients.  The program plays a vital role in Montana’s safety net for low income people.  The program is an economic stimulus – every $5 in new SNAP benefits generates nearly twice as much ($9.20) in total community spending.  Benefits are distributed electronically using an “Electronic Benefit Transfer” (EBT) card which functions like a debit card.  Among other requirements, applicants must meet income criteria, be United States Citizens or legal aliens intending to live in Montana, and must furnish a Social Security number.  The program was previously known as the Food Stamp Program.

You can apply for SNAP at your local Office of Public Assistance.

WIC

The goal of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is to give children the best possible start in life by ensuring that they get proper nutrition both in utero and during their preschool years. The program provides nutritious foods, such as iron-fortified cereal, milk, eggs, peanut butter, and dried beans, as well as formula for mothers who choose not to breastfeed. It also provides nutrition education to improve eating behavior.

To qualify for WIC, you must be either 1) a woman who is pregnant, breastfeeding, or recently had a baby, or 2) a child up to age 5. In all cases, applicants must meet income guidelines, and a health professional must consider their health to be at risk.

I don't even really know where to start on how I got to where I am, other than I do understand that I have no one to blame but myself.  If I had listened to my mother, I would not be rich but I would not be struggling as I am now.

I work at a Waffle House, and it was never easy to pay the bills, but up until the past couple of months it was possible.  They have hired a young manager with no experience and he has put me on a lot of slow shifts and I have no idea how I am going to pay the rent this month.  Good times right?

My children are all adults and they really can't help as they have bills of their own and children, and they are just making it.  Tough times for most right now.

I really feel stupid even doing this, but pride does not pay bills.   I am just trying to get enough help to get through until I can get another job, or get a part time job to go with the one I have now.

If anyone knows another way on the internet to earn some extra money that doesn't require spending even one cent, please feel free to let me know about it.

Oh Also Jody, check and see if you can apply for LIHEAP still in your area, you may be able to fall into the emergancy LIHEAP funding.(depending on what its called in your area, it may not be called emergancy funding.) I know that in some cases in some areas LIHEAP will still accept applications & may still be able to help you, IF they cannot help you this season they may put you on the list for 2011-2012 winter help.
Call your county assistance office they may be able to advise you on a little more help.
I wish you the best of luck.

In collaboration with Wesley House, Catholic Charities Southeast Kansas Emergency Services is a program that provides assistance as a means of keeping people in their homes while helping them handle their family’s daily needs. The program serves people who are the working poor, unemployed or who have been unable to work because of disability or illness, or those receiving fixed incomes or limited government assistance. The focus is on helping preventing the situation from worsening and guiding families toward goals that meet their daily needs.

How We Help
Rent/Utility Assistance

Financial assistance to help pay overdue electric/gas bills or rent. Each form of assistance can be provided to an individual one time each year with the primary goal of preventing homelessness.

Case Management

Emergency Services offers case management services to help individuals and families identify root problems that led them to their situation of need, addressing daily needs and providing referrals to community resources. The case manager also works with clients to set short- and long-term goals, working with them during the next months to accomplish those goals and establish life choices that make their goals possible.

Prescriptions

Financial assistance to fill physician prescriptions only (no narcotics or controlled substances). The program first checks all resources that specifically provide funding for prescriptions. If all funding resources have been exhausted, financial assistance may be given.

Gas Vouchers

Provided for the disabled and ill who have doctor’s appointments out of town, and for people who have just started working and need gas money to drive to work until they are paid.

Parenting Classes

Catholic Charities provides free parenting classes for the Pittsburg area. These classes are based Active Parenting Now curriculum and parents of three age groups are targeted; parent of 1-4 year olds; 5-12 year olds and teens. For parents of 1-4 year olds, there are three 90-minutes classes and parents of older children receive six 90-minute classes for each age group.

These classes are offered on Wednesday evening. Seating is limited and registration is required. Please call for information on when sessions begin. All classes are offered at Wesley House, 411 East 12th Street, Pittsburg, Kansas.

These classes are made possible by a grant from the Pittsburg Area Community Foundation. Participants of parenting classes may be eligible other services.

Utility Assistance

Appointments are taken by phone and help is provided based on the need and funding availability.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligibility is based on three criteria:

•The assistance will prevent homelessness (keep a person in their home for 30 days)
•The client submits all requested verifications
•When we create a budget we can identify where the money has gone and that it is spent appropriately (i.e. on bills, transportation, etc.)
There are no income guidelines for assistance, only the eligibility criteria. Assistance may be given once in 12 months for rent and once in 12 months for utilities, but the assistance may not occur within the same six-month period.

Community Partnerships
To ensure that the needs of our community are met, Catholic Charities Emergency Services often collaborates with other agencies, including Wesley House, SRS, the Salvation Army, SEK-CAP, Smart Start, and local churches. This positive team approach to helping others also ensures an effective use of funds and resources.

http://job-ideas.starshine1.aidpage.com/

You can check below as it can help people find others to live with to help with the cost of living today.

http://www.nationalsharedhousing.org/

For a growing number of persons faced with losing their independence and struggling to keep housing costs within their budget, shared housing is an affordable and viable alternative.

A home sharer might be a senior citizen, a person with disabilities, a working professional, someone at-risk of homelessness, a single parent, an AIDS patient, or simply a person wishing to share his or her life and home with others. For these people, shared housing offers companionship, affordable housing, security, mutual support and much more.

Shared living has been known to enhance the health and well-being of all people and allows people to remain independent in their home. Home Sharing also preserves neighborhoods, creates an affordable housing and saves housing and healthcare dollars.

And I would check with your local senior center as they may have lunches or meals for little to nothing or free.

Help with rent

By oceania - on Dec 17, 2010

I am writing to see if anyone can help me with my rent. My boyfriend has been out of work for the past 4 or 5 months and we have 3 children. Our rent is $1400 and we have a lease so it's difficult to move to somewhere cheaper right now. Our rent is due today and our landlord is not giving us any extentions to pay. I work full-time and not sure what to do.

ive never thought i would have to do something like this.I have never been in this predicament before. I was on the street for a month in nyc trying to think of a solution. Let me start off my saying i am not on drugs, nor have i ever been on drugs. I spent my life on this earth putting other people first just to end up in this predicament, i know sad. I have goals for my life,i had money in my account until i found out that my own sister illegally wiped out my account, the DA is currently taking care of the case so i can retrieve everything and start my life over. she bought a house & and own two cars while i'm suffering. Up until now i still dont understand why she would do that to her little sister, knowing that we dont have a mom to help us. I recently found out that i had a check coming so i used it to move in to a apartment in PA since its alot cheaper out there. Its my first month and my rent is 15 days late, my kitchen is completely empty and i have absolutely nothing in my pocket. Im trying to remain positive, but its getting harder. I currently owe 400.00 in storage, and if im able to get those things out, i'll be able to sell some stuff and get some money to pick me up. All my important documents that i would be able to use to get a job and clothes are in that storage, and if i dont pay i'll lose everything. Im looking for someone to help me! At this point i'm just praying for help. If you have any sources that would be able to help me pay my storage bill, it would be helpful. If you have any sources that would help me pay my rent or get food i would also be grateful! I'm located in bucks county,PA. I dont even have dime for transportation, so please keep that in mind. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
